Amsterdam Light Festival

December is always a festive month in any country and a lot of European countries don't lag behind when it comes to putting festivities together. From the colourful Christmas markets in Finland to the beautiful December fairs in Belgium, the yuletide period remains a time of merriment and colour.

To this regard, Amsterdam doesn't take prisoners at all. The Amsterdam Light Festival remains one of the most colourful December festivals in all of Europe and the world.

2017/2018 kickstarts the 6th edition of this wonderful festival and an opportunity for tourists to pour in, take in the art, the colour and the festivities. The Light Festival is scheduled to run from the 1st of December 2017 until the 21st of January 2018. | Amsterdam Light festival

The festival provides a lot of Dutch and international artists with the platform to showcase their magnificent and wonderful works of art. Some of these spectacular art works will be located on strategic locations like the Canal Ring, the Amstel River amongst others.

The two routes to follow would be; The Water Colours - the boat route and The Illuminade - the walking route.

So as a visitor to the city of Amsterdam, the question must be: "How do I take part in and enjoy this festival to the fullest?" There are lots of boating companies offering canal cruises in Amsterdam during the festival. You can check out the official website of the Amsterdam Light Festival to find out which boating companies they're partnering with every year. Tickets can be bought on the websites of these boating companies.

The maps of the city containing the locations of the works of art can be bought at all I AMSTERDAM Visitor Stores. For more information, please feel free to visit their website.

The Amsterdam Light Festival is colourful, magnificent and truly lovely. Every year, artists are presented with new themes and as the theme for this year states - 'Existential', visitors from all corners of the earth are encouraged to think of all the things that brings us all together as a people. We are all encouraged to think of LOVE, COMPASSION, TOLERANCE and of course, PEACE.
