Best Pancake Houses in Amsterdam

I really have no idea what life looks like for people who hate pancakes. How boring life must be for them!

Here in the Netherlands (and mostly Amsterdam), everyday is pancake day. Here (in no particular order), are some of Amsterdam's best pancake houses and my personal favourites.

PANCAKES Amsterdam

PANCAKES Amsterdam gives a modern and new twist to a traditional pancake house. They serves both Dutch and American pancakes and are known to use sustainable ingredients. PANCAKES Amsterdam has three locations in the centre of Amsterdam and is always the perfect place for a delicious pancake in a unique atmosphere!

Visit Pancakes Amsterdam at Berenstraat 38, 1016 GH Amsterdam.

The Pancake Bakery

The Pancake Bakery started as a small pancake restaurant with a simple menu and a reputation for serving some of the Netherland's most traditional pancakes. Opened in 1973, the traditional pancake house is located in a VOC warehouse and has built a reputation for being where both old and young are welcome to enjoy some traditional and international pancakes.

Visit Pancake Bakery at Prinsengracht 191, 1015 DS Amsterdam.

Het Zaanse Pannenkoekenpaleis

Het Zaanse Pannenkoekenpaleis provides customers with an opportunity to enjoy plenty of pancakes and poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes) and the fantastic view of the Zaan as ships and boats pass by! The Zaanse Pannenkoekenpaleis is a lovely child-friendly pancake house in a traditional Dutch setting where both Dutch pancakes and international pancakes are served. Located in the center of Zaandam (a city just 5 minutes away from Amsterdam by train) with a wonderful view of the Wilhelminasluis, this pancake house is every pancake lover's dream. It is always fully packed in the summer months as both tourists and locals can't seem to get enough of the place. Don't forget to try their "Mexican Pancakes", which have been voted the best pancake in the Netherlands.

Visit them at Wilhelminastraat 8, 1501 CT Zaandam.

De Carrousel Pannenkoeken Paviljoen

Located where an old-fashioned carousel used to be, De Carousel Pannenkoeken Paviljoen is where pancake lovers go for some of the tastiest and most delicious pancakes. Amsterdam locals and tourists love the poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes) and De Carousel still remains one of the busiest pancake houses during the summer months.

Visit them at H.M. van Randwijkplantsoen 1, 1017 ZW Amsterdam.

De Pannenkoekenboot

Alright! Here's one for the imagination!

Try to imagine being in Amsterdam - a city with lovely canals and pancakes! Now try combining both! Isn't that wonderful?

Fortunately, it is not just one for the imagination. It is totally possible!

The idea behind the Pannenkoekenboot is a 75-minute boat cruise with unlimited pancakes! There are cruises for individuals, families and even large groups of friends. The pancakes are both traditional Dutch and international pancakes. Honestly, there's nothing better than a very cosy boat and an unlimited delicious stack of pancakes. This is definitely something everyone must try while in Amsterdam. Tickets can be booked on their website.

Check them out at Ms. van Riemsdijkweg 33, 1033 RD Amsterdam.

Mook Pancakes

Let me just start by saying that this is my favourite all-time pancake house in Amsterdam. I love Mook Pancakes so much that I visit it often with my girlfriend (Roxanne Markus) and she also took me there on my birthday this year. When I really want to enjoy some pancakes, I make sure to find my way to Amsterdam West. Mook Pancakes gives a new twist to the traditional pancake, is the one place where delicious pancakes are served in a hip and urban setting. With pictures of Snoop Dogg or Kendrick Lamar on the wall (depending on which branch you visit) and catchy rap music in the background, one cannot help nodding and vibing to the music while devouring delicious stacks of pancakes. The pancakes they serve at Mook are made from 100% organic wholegrain spelt flour, plus their veggies and fruits are fresh and fruity. Make sure you try the "Infamous." It's a stack of pancakes served with banana, home-made chocolate sauce, melted peanut butter, strawberries, blackberries and cinnamon. It always goes down well with some fresh coconut milk.

Oh and one more thing, MOOK is short for ‘Mokum’, which is a slang for Amsterdam!

Visit Mook Pancakes at De Clercqstraat 34, 1052 MZ Amsterdam.

Lunchroom Downtown

Lunchroom Downtown is the first openly gay café in Amsterdam and is also the place to be when in need of a good cup of coffee, delicious pancakes and savoury sandwiches. The café opened in 1970 and quickly became a place that welcomes both the LGBT community and all lovers of good food. The café has a fine selection of pancakes as well as an extensive breakfast menu. Lunchroom Downtown is the perfect location for some of Amsterdam's most delicious pancakes. Don't miss out!

Visit Lunchroom Downtown at Reguliersdwarsstraat 311017 BJ Amsterdam.
